" 25 YEARS AGO Miss Zadie Leake, of Jackson and Miss Lula Leake, of Baton Rouge, were visitors at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Leake, last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Mr. and Mrs. Richard M- Craine. of Baton Rouge, spent several days recently v,isiting Mr. and Mrs. C. N McCraine. Mrs. Jecsie Thorn,as and Mrs. I I August Metzger spent Wednes- day of this week in New Or- leans. Sgt. Bill Soder, of Keesler Field, Miss.. arrived here the first of the week for a furlough visit. Mr. Bert Babers, Mrs. H. T. Ferguson, Mrs. Emma Morgan, Mrs Undine Ferg,uson and Mrs. Pete Stoekett spent Monday in New Orleans. Mrs. Marsball Treppendahl, Mrs. Francis Conner, and Mr. I John Roe Treppendahl were visitors to Baton Rouge on Mon- day. I Dr. W. N. Jenkins. of Port Gibson. district governor of Lions International. visited the Woodville Lion.s Club at Rosso's Cafe here last Tuesday night. Mrs, Lyttleton Lewis left here on Monday for New Orleans where she entrained for a trip t:o an Galdel. Calif.. to spend Christmas with her son and daughter-in-law. W. McKiethen, nea'r Jackson for the past wo weeks, returned home Saturday evening. Mr. Roy E. Cox, Agriculturalist of the A. H. School, and Mr. C. S. Miller, assist,ant, spent last Friday in McCemb where they attended an interesting meeting of the teachers of Agrieulture in this district. 75 YEARS AGO Fourteen transient guests were registered at the City Hotel on last Thursday evening. . M.H. Wilkinson Esq., of Glos- ter, as in ,attendance up,on Chancery Court the first two days of this week. ! Mr. Cantwell of N.C., repre- senting the legatee of the H. S. Van Eaton estate, came here in attendance upon Chancery Court and prolonged his visit during the week. Our town is getting up a wide 'eputation as a cotton market. It is unquestionably true that cotton brings a better price here than anywhere else in the in- terior. The entertainment at Ma- sonic Hall on Tuesday night, at which time Miss Annie Lowe Jonas. 'the gifted eloeu;tionist re,ado her first appearance in our town. was well attended considering the weather. To all who attended it proved a most enjoyable one and ,all seem well sa',tisf!,ed that Miss Jonas is perhaps the best in ,her line who have ever appeared on our stage in Pathetic, Dramatic and Comic. She displays a remark- able talent and one which will soon place her on the topmost round of t'he ladder. Besides this audience heard some good music by Mis,s Lucie Aaron. the Misses Hood, Inman and Mr. C.
