In these days Americans are thinking about savin8 energy. Here are ways you can save money on your heating this winter, lust follow these simple rules. (And by the way-they apply to any kind of heating system, not just electric heat.) 1. Have a professional check your heating equipment to make sure it's operating efficiently. Change filters when they're dirty; heating equipment with dirty filters will uot operate economically. 2. Insulate exterior walls, ceilings, and floors. Heating costs for properly insulated homes are ahoays lower. 3. Lower heating costs can be realized with complete weather-stripping and caulking around doors and windows. 4. Vents for ventilation of attics and crawl space should allow a flow of air to control condensation. Excessive moisture can destroy the effects of insulating materials and increase heating costs. 5. Fireplaces can waste heat. When your fireplace is not in use, make sure the damper is tightly closed. 6. Set the thermostat at a comfortable heating level and turn it down 5 at night. You'll never notice the difference most nights. Or add an extra blanket if you need it. 7. For maximum comfort and economy every home should be equipped with a humidifier. Air that is too dry requires more heat for a comfort level. It's true, some of these steps may require spending some money in order to save some. But you'll come out better in the long run by following these steps. If saving money on heating costs.., and still staying comfortably warm.., interests you, consult your electric or heating contractor.
