Local merchants and patrons donated mats, dirt and a variety of vegetable and flower seeds. Elemen- tary classes chose plants that best fit their class and its environment. Mrs. Deborah Whetstone's 6th grade class chose lavender so their class can be calmer. Radishes and Basil were planted to spice up the menus. On Monday, September 9, candidates for the Stu- dent Council gave speech- es during high school as- sembly. On Tuesday, the following students elected officers: President, Hayden Patterson; Vice President, Mary Doucet; Secretary, Lucas Wisner; Treasurer, Austin Hendry; and Report- er, Mary Claire McGraw. 9th Grade Representative, Nicholas Lanehart; 10th Grade Representatives, Carmen Cavin and Jamie Lewis; 12th Grade Rep- resentatives, Kelly Arnold and Tyler Radley. Woodville Asylum Lodge To Meet The Woodville Asylum will host its monthly busi- ness meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, at the Ledge Hall in Woodville. All members are encouraged to attend. Supper will be pro- vided. -- Holmes Sturgeon, secretary * * * Mr. and Mrs. Holmes Sturgeon and Lon were joined by John Foster Or- geron to attend the Ole Miss vs. Southeastern Mis- souri football game in Ox- ford on Saturday, Septem- ber 7. They went especially to watch Walker Sturgeon, #51 on the Ole Miss de- fensive squad. Walker is a junior athlete and experi- enced some of his first play for the Ole Miss team as the Rebels took away an excel- lent victory. Walker cur- rently plays defensive end and defensive tackle. DADDY DOLLS REPLACED WITH THE REAL THING -- Daddy Dolls with a photo of Marine Captain Wes- ley Berry of Woodville were replaced with the real thing when Capt. Berry, who is just home from Afghanistan, surprised his two kindergarten chil- dren at Wilkinson County Christian Academy when he showed up at a pep-rally held at the school on Fri- day, September 6. Welcome home signs, flags and quite a few "Welcome Home" tears filled the gym during this exciting occasion. Rosso Margaret C. Rosso, 87, a native of Centreville, died on Monday, September 9, 2013, in Tampa, Florida, where she had resided for over 60 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Dannie Rosso. She is survived by one brother, Samuel W. Rosso of Hattiesburg, one niece, three great-nephews and numerous friends and rela- tives. Funeral services were held on Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Centreville Baptist Church. Burial fol- lowed at Evergreen Cem- etery in Woodville.
