No one knows how long oil prices will take to re- turn to a level that will make the Tuscaloosa Ma- rine Shale play viable. That said, the presump- tion is that the crystal balls of the operating companies in the area have a better view of things than we lay- men do. So, let's note a few things these operating and related service companies are doing or have done re- cently in the hope of get- ting an idea of what they are thinking. First, the staffs of these companies in the area have been drastically cut. Local offices for landmen]legal staff have been cleaned out and vacated. Waste water disposal companies have had trucks and equipment on site moved out. Some mineral leases in the core area have lapsed without contact for releasing. In at least one case a pad has been built on a site for which the lease has since expired. Obviously, the TMS is being abandoned. Shut down. It is over. But, wait. Lease options in the core area are being exercised... with a twist. Encana is presently contacting lease- holders with options and asking for an additional op- tion to allow up to 5 years or more from now to drill. Companies recently locat- ing here are continuing to prepare for the TMS to crank up. Though currently the only company drilling in the TMS, Sanchez En- ergy, does continue to drill and, in fact, is considering drilling more than original- ly planned due to lowered MS 39120. Your response must be mailed or hand delivered not later than thirty (30) days after the first publication of this summons. If your response is not so mailed or delivered, a judg- ment will be entered in this case against you as requested in the Peti- tion without any acknowledgment of your presence or existence. Further, you are summoned to appear at the Wilkinson County Courthouse located at 525 Main Street, Woodville, Mississippi 39669, before the Chancery Court of Wilkinson County, Mississippi, and before the Honorable Judge E. Vincent Davis on the 27th day of May 2015 at 9:30 a.m. to show cause, if you can, whether relief as prayed for in the 1st Amended Complaint should be granted; in case of your failure to appear or defend, a judgment will be en- tered against you for the things and matters demanded in said Petition. You must also file your original response with the Clerk of this Court within a reasonable time afterward. Issued under my hand and seal of said Court this 14 day of April 2015. /s/Thomas C. Personally, I think these companies believe oil prices will return to a profitable level, but exactly when is subject to debate. The con- sensus seems to be some- where between late 2015 and early 2017. I've developed a view on what each of these compa- nies is thinking. Encana is preparing for a long haul. Sanchez seems to think that the current costs are low enough and the higher prices are close enough that drilling ahead is a good idea. Goodrich, awaiting a new rig at pres- ent, seems to be planning to continue to drill while delaying fracking until June and after. Comstock seems to continue to show an interest in the TMS, but is content to sit on the side- line until higher oil prices arrive. We will likely get a bet- ter feel for these company's plans over the next few weeks. Goodrich will make a presentation on Monday, April 20. Then, first quar- ter reports will be given by all of these companies by May 12. I should note that there was a strng sign oil prices have recently bottomed out. A key indicator of the supply/demand balance in inventory levels, and these levels, while still at all- time highs, have dropped 2 of the past 3 weeks for the. first time this year. But, when it comes to predicting oil prices, maybe I should remember another Yogi saying, "If you ask me anything I don't know, I'm not going to answer." As to pre-production status of wells in the TMS, there has been no change since last week. Drilling or Moving on: Wilkinson, Sanchez Bloomer.
