First and foremost we gather as a comfort for those who survive. Secondly, we remember and honor a life that was. These events are also a t'mae for connecting and reconnecting with friends and family. Perhaps bringing loved ones together is a last gift, of sorts, from the decedent. What does this have to do with the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale, you ask? Nothing really, except wherever I go I'm asked about the TMS and a recent funeral I attended provided another opportu- nity for discussion. When asked by a cous- in about the TMS at this funeral I responded, in my best Dickens, that these are the best of times and the worst of times. I went on to explain that all indications are the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale play is going to be a success if we can ever find our way back to higher oil prices. Whether it is by locating here, find- ing cheaper materials or lowering overhead, service providers are continuing to work toward making the TMS a success, which will in turn provide a long term profit to service pro- renewed enthusiasm? viders.
