I am hoping to present these facts to the Board of Supervi- sors and ask if there is any pos- sibility that Lake Mary could be eligible for a grant from Wildlife and Fisheries to improve the public landing. The now park in Woodvflle received grants from Wildlife and Fisheries and hopefiflly, someone will realize that to keep the revenues com- ing in you have to support and maintain the source from which the monies are coming. LAKE MARY. In order for Lake Mary to compete with other area lakes and keep tax dollars in Wilkinson County, offidals have to start recognizing the importance of the impact Lake Mary and Fort Adams have on the entire county. I would like to thank Sher- rift Jackson, his deputies and the dispatcher, for responding so quickly, last Thursday night to our emergency situation. Our very dear friend, Mr. Doug Og- don was at his camp located on what is left of the backstreet of Fort Adams, when he start experiendng excruciating pain in his lower abdomon around 11:00 pan. and called us for help. The backstreet (Fort Ad- ams Main St. Loop) is in such terrible condition, we weren't sure if an ambulance could make it to his camp, so Mfke loaded Mr. Doug into his mlck and headed toward Woodville. I called 911 and got Parish. I quickly realized the mistake I had made because these folks had no idea where or what I was talking about. I hung up and called WCSO, the dispatcher was not only profes- sional but her reassuring voice helped to cairn me down. She was very knowledgeable of the area and also very patient with me. The ambulance was dis- patched to the Shell Station in Woodville to meet Mfke. Sher- rift Jackson and his deputies as- sisted in every way possible and because of their quick response, Mr. Ogden is in Natchez Com- munity Hospital ICU recover- ing from emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix. I really enjoyed ]ast week,s letter to the editor from Mrs. Mary Ann McCurley. She had some very valid points. Audits are very important and why our small county can't sm to complete them in a tnely fash- ion is ridiculous. At one of last month's BOS meeting, County Administrator Bruce Lewis mad a letter in which Wilkin- son County asked the state to "forgive" the incomplete audits and reinstate the county's grant privileges. The State Of Missis- sippi did not chose to forgive. I know the county administra- tor isn't responsible for our cur- rent audit situation and he is only trying to rectify it. How did Wxlkinson County get into such a mess? I am going to tell you just what I have been told when calling state officials for help for our mad situation. You got what you voted for, and yes, I have been told that on more than one occasion. Folks, are we any better off than we were four years ago? I can't see how anyone could think we are. We are cut off from all state aid, our roads are hor- rible and we continue to operate on bonxed fimds. Wfllenson County, amder proper manage- mont, could become economi- cally sound, but until then it will remain dysfunctional. We need folks in office who actually will perform their duties and see to such things as audits and understand the ramifications of negt state requiremonts. Many of our eamomical stress- es are a direct result of the in- complete audits. I don't see this changing anyt.me soon because the 2012 audit hasn't been com- pleted. At the rate things are going, it could be years before we are eligible for state fimding. In the last few weeks, I have met so many wonderful folks, who read The Wood- ville Republican. Sometimes Wilkinson County is the main topic because many folks can't understand all of the things that go on here! Citizens and taxpayers being manipu- lated into maintaining county roads, incomplete audits are unheard of in other places, horrible road conditions are just a few hot topics. I could write a book on aJl the things that folks find ludicrous, but, there is one thing they all find joy in, and that is The Far Corner. Some have camps on Lake .Mary, some in Fort Ad- ams, Pecan Grove, Lessley, Locust Hill and some are just passing through for the day, but each one has their own appreciation for The Far Cor- ner. Sunrises, sunsets, long hikes on Clark's Creek, fish- ing and hunting are just a few things one can find here. Spring will be here soon, and I hope to see you in The Far Comer. SometimesYouJust Have TO g, '::" Your Sister On Va]entine's Day They Say a tie is like kiss- ing your sister. A tie, which is unheard of in basketball, is all the WCCA Rams Bitty Basketball teams were able to accomplish with their games on Valentine's Day. The Foster Insurance Agency 5/6 grade boys team started the day off for WCCA playing Delta Charter. Delta Charter's defense gave the Rams fits all day, limiting the Rams to only seven points: Delta Charter was also lim- ited by the Rams but was also able to score just enough to come away with a 9 to 7 vic- tory. Andrew Sessions led the Rams with four points followed by R.J. Fisher with three paints. The Rams fell to 1-3 on the season. (Continued on Pa i0) HARDWOOD LOGS FOR SALE?
